U.S. Army Nightstalkers

The 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), also known as the Nightstalkers , is a special operations unit of the United States Army that provides helicopter aviation support for general purpose forces and Special Operations Forces. Their missions include assault and reconnaissance and are often conducted at night and in other dangerous conditions.

Headquartered at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, the 160th is generally considered the Army’s best-qualified aviators. Their motto is Night Stalkers Don’t Quit.

During Operation Redwing eight Night Stalkers were lost along with eight Navy SEALs after their MH-47 Chinook helicopter was hit by a rocket propelled grenade.  The incident occurred during the attempted rescue of the four man SEAL team who had been inserted to observe or kill local Taliban leader Ahmad Shah.
