Emile Hirsch, who has starred in such films as, “Into the Wild,” and “Milk” will be joining the cast of Peter Berg’s upcoming Lone Survivor movie. With Hirsch joining the film it appears that all four major roles have been filled in the movie based on Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell’s best-selling book.

If reports are true that Mark Wahlberg will portray Luttrell, it seems likely that Hirsch will play medal of honor recipient Lt. Michael Murphy. Ben Foster will likely take on the role of Matt Axelson while Kitsch will portray Danny Dietz. Still, the idea that the 5′ 8″, 40 year-old Wahlberg will assume the role of the 6′ 4″ Luttrell who was in his late 20′s when Operation Redwings occurred seems like somewhat of a mis-match. From the outside looking in Taylor Kitsch seems to be a more viable candidate to portray Luttrell with Wahlberg playing Murphy. Foster as Axelson and Hirsch as Dietz would round out the roles in what is turning out to be a very impressive cast.

The movie is slated to begin filming in September in the mountains of New Mexico.
